SITE AIMS TO SPUR VOTING
Vote Medford 2007 is up and running at votemedford.org. The new site was designed by several residents who want to encourage their neighbors to vote in local elections. The website includes nonpartisan information about the candidates for the City Council and School Committee as well as voting information. - Christine McConville

Vote Medford 2007 questionnaires

(Published in the Medford Transcript, October 4, 2007, under Campaign Trail)

Vote Medford’s 2007 questionnaires for candidates for City Council, School Committee and mayor have been published at VoteMedford.org.

The community is invited to read the questions that their neighbors want local office-seekers to discuss before Election Day.

Based on hundreds of questions submitted by the Medford community during August 2007, the questions were reviewed by members of more than forty local organizations. The raw questions submitted by Medford citizens via our Web site and drop boxes are also available online.

Vote Medford is an independent, citizen-led initiative whose goal is to help voters learn how candidates for municipal office in Medford view the city and local issues. Our membership is collaborative, composed of Medford citizens outside of political party machinery.

In 2005, the Web site and TV3 programming reached thousands. Visit the Web site at VoteMedford.org for more about the process, team, the 2005 project and community groups who helped this year.

Candidate responses to the questionnaire will be posted verbatim on the Web site as soon as possible. Also, candidates are scheduling video interviews now, for shows that will be cablecast in October and also available online.

Kicking Off - Vote Medford 2007

For Immediate Release

Vote Medford
, a voter education project organized by citizens and not affiliated with any politicians, candidates, causes, or political parties, is back by popular demand! We’re gearing up for the 2007 election season to help you make up your mind about who you want to lead our city.

You remember 2005 - we took over 100 questions from voters and created questionnaires for each candidate. Their answers to your questions were posted verbatim on our website and you could watch them in video interviews on TV3. Thousands of Medford voters learned about the candidates through Vote Medford’s efforts. Go ahead and check out the Vote Medford 2005 archives.

This year we’re back for more, and this time we’ve invited over 70 Medford organizations - from the police to the Medford Historical Society to everything in between - to submit questions and help edit the questionnaire. The video interviews will be available on our website as well as TV3. We’re also planning live candidate forums- stay tuned for more details.

Water bills, school cuts, Green Line, parking, senior services, sidewalks.  There are a lot of concerns facing Medford, and a whole bunch of candidates for city office who want to take charge.

100% of the people in Medford know some way to improve our city, but only 25% bother to vote for its leadership.  If you are part of the silent 75% and lack of information about candidates has been holding you back, we've got good news.  Through Vote Medford 2007 you'll be able to read or hear from every candidate about what they want to do for the city.  Even better, you get to ask the questions!

Just drop your question in a Vote Medford 2007 box at the Danish Pastry House or the Farmers’ Market in Medford Square, or submit them through our website. We are collecting questions from now through the end of August.

Whether you are an old timer or newcomer, whether you want big change or think things are just fine the way they are, you want someone in city government to represent your point of view.  Vote Medford 2007 wants to make sure you have the information you need to vote wisely.  So submit your questions and check out our website today!
